Speaking of New Orleans – what IS the deal with Tuba Skinny? I knew nothing about the band a couple of weeks ago, and since then I’ve heard about them from several sources, and they’ve been through Burlington on tour with several dates here in the last week. The sound is retro, for sure, in the best 20s/30s dixieland and early New Orleans jazz traditions. They’re fun, hip and ambitious, a young three-woman, four-man ensemble with two recordings available now through the Tuba Skinny blog website. See what you think of this one:
