Vermont’s music landscape would be very different without the longstanding contributions of Blanche Moyse.
She came to the state in 1949 from France with her husband Louis. Together with his father (flutist Marcel Moyse), Adolf and Hermann Busch, and Rudolf Serkin they founded one of America’s most beloved cultural institutions: the Marlboro Music Festival.
Blanche also founded the music school at the fledgling Marlboro College, she created and directed the New England Bach Festival for over three decades, and she founded the Brattleboro Music Center.
Today Blanche Moyse turns 100 years old – what gift to give someone who’s given everything? I’ll just offer a heartfelt “happy birthday” here, and say, thank you Blanche!
