Izaline Calister-KriyoyoRumba, cumbia, rembetika…why stop at tangos and salsa? This week’s World of Music feautres ten new recordings along with a lot of favorites, in native song and dance styles from around the globe.

In his new recording Siwan, Norwegian pianist Jon Balke has assembled an international cast to imagine the sounds of ancient Andalusia and Morocco. We’ll hear the latest from blues nomads Tinariwen, the sweet voice of Cape Verde’s chanteuse Sara Tavares, and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody worked over by Cubano stylists Rhythms Del Mundo. Curaçao’s Izaline Calister brings some warm island sounds to the show, and Mexico’s Lila Downs shakes things up with her 2008 Grammy-nominated release, Shake Away.
