Clarinetist/scholar Dr. Michael White lost everything he owned in the flooding that followed the landfall of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Five years on, what’s happening in New Orleans now? And what have we learned?

These images (below) go further here than any words can to describe the scope of the city’s post-hurricane devastation and the very personal effect it had on every resident.

“The Big Easy” is charmingly famous for its slow, laid-back lifestyle. Unfortunately that pace has also characterized the rebuilding capacity and relief efforts in the city, where 2/3 of the population has now returned but they are living in neighborhoods that have no grocery stores, schools, or hospitals.  Here’s what Dr. White has to say about his NOLA:
