world of music

It’s Labor Day. This week on World of Music we’ll feature Weary Blues, the landmark 1958 collaboration between poet Langston Hughes, jazz critic/composer Leonard Feather, and bassist Charles Mingus.

Hughe’s poems on the struggles of race, class, opression, and societal inequity make for a powerful and timeless statement that just seems right for Labor Day.

Today’s show also features Vermont’s own psychotropical band Guagua, from their new release Tres; and soulful sounds from Mali’s Tinariwen, Madagascar’s Razia Said, and Mexico’s Alicia Villareal.

World of Music is a hard-working, locally living blend rooted in blues, poetry, jazz, and international music every Monday from 3-5pm ET on the Radiator. Online, or at 105.9FM if you’re listening in Burlington, VT.
