There are few places in the world as politically fractured as the Middle East. For all the differences though, there is a striking essential sonic continuity in the music from the region.

This week on World of Music we’re diving head first into the music of Lebabon, Palestine, Israel, Iraq, Iran, and Syria. Israeli artists like Meira Asher and Idan Raichel use their music to work for non-violent solutions. Others like Ali El Dik (Syria), Walid Toufic (Lebanon) and Le Trio Joubran (Palestine) create music that both embodies and furthers the unique voice of their culture.
