Now in its 63rd year, “The 40th Army Shootin’ Tootin’ Band”, is a world-renowned concert band

Wednesday, January 19, 2011
7:30 PM – The Vermont Symphony Orchestra
Director Jaime Laredo and VSO concertmaster Katherine Winterstein are the soloists for Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in a minor, which begins the program. The program also features Burrill Phillips’ jazzy bassoon Concertpiece, and another Vivaldi double concerto with cellists Dieuwke Davydov and her student, Joshua Morris, a high school senior from St. Albans. The performance concludes with Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

7:30 PM – An evening with James Leach, chairman of the NEH Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities Jim Leach discusses how civility, particularly in this era of heightened adversarial politics, requires not just good etiquette but respectful engagement with other viewpoints and experiences.

7:30 PM – The Sky Blue Boys, featuring brothers “Banjo Dan” and Willy Lindner performing on mandolin and guitar.

7:30 PM – The St. Johnsbury Band w/ Counterpoint
A rare opportunity to hear these two well-known groups perform together! They will be presenting a dramatic evening of music and letters from Vermonters in the Civil War in honor of the 250th Anniversary of that war.

7:30 PM – Michèle and Fabé Choiniere
Michèle, winner of the 2007 Governor’s Heritage Award, is a Smithsonian Folkways recording artist. She plays traditional and original french-Vermont songs; she is joined by her father, Fabé, on harmonica.

7:30 PM – Clogger Ann Whiting with High-Low-Jack
Authentic, lively, Vermont, French-Canadian, Welsh, and Southern Mountain dance music for Ann’s fancy footwork.
