Three years ago on January 19th the world lost a powerful musician, an ambassador, and an eloquent spokesman for the native people of Belize. This week World of Music features our annual tribute to the life and music of Andy Palacio.

We’ll hear from his first couple of albums, Keimoun and Til Da Mawnin, along with his final masterpiece – Wátina – which was released the year before he died. Besides his own music, Palacio’s legacy is heard in many other local artists he worked with and influenced like Paul Nabor, Umalali (the Garifuna Women’s Collective) and Aurelio Martinez. Their recordings offer rich insight to the language, life, and everyday culture of Belize. I look forward to this special show every year, hope you can join me for it.

World of Music is a respectful blend of blues, jazz, poetry, and world music every Monday from 3-5pm ET on the Radiator.  Online, or at 105.9FM if you’re listening in Burlington, VT.
