Another sign of spring? This was the weekend of the 18th annual Waterbury Home and Garden show, sponsored by the local Rotary Club.
It was my first time going. Apart from the chance to find out about storm windows and home efficiency heating and buy brilliant bouquets of unseasonal flowers, the show also featured a photo contest. On Friday afternoon after work I picked up two of my photos at home and made the long, scenic drive down Route 100 through Waitsfield and the Mad River Valley to the show’s home, Crossett Brook Middle School in Duxbury. Ground zero is the school’s gym, though I did see a number of booths being set up in the lunchroom as well.
Today I returned to the show to learn that one of my photos had won second prize!
It was surprising, having seen the high quality of the others when I dropped mine off. Big thanks to the Rotary Club for the award for their hard work organizing and managing the whole show.
Next show I’m working toward will open on April 1st in Brattleboro, at the Vermont Center for Photography. I found out this past week I’ve had two photos accepted into their spring show, on the interesting theme of “What Matters About Photography”. Details coming soon.
