It’s been a year since we checked in with Adamant didgeridoo artist Pitz Quattrone. Nov. 22nd is national Didgeridoo Day, and he’ll return to this week’s World of Music with a guitar-playing partner. Together Shrimp & Pitz bring a pocketful of new tunes and exciting news about their latest project together.

We’ll also spend some time with new releases picked up at is year’s WOMAD and WOMEX world music conferences including Francis Mbappe from Cameroon, Montreal’s premier party band Oztara, and Zafa: Funky grooves of Yemen!

World of Music is a roasted root casserole of blues, poetry, jazz, and international music every Monday from 3-5pm ET on the Radiator. Online, or at 105.9FM if you’re listening in Burlington, VT.

It’s a fact, and one of many interesting ones about the native Australian instrument: the didgeridoo got its name from European settlers who heard it and decided the deep droning tones it made sounded like “didgeridoo didgeridoo didgeridoo….“.

Indigenous Aboroginal cultures know the 1,500+-year old instrument by its traditional name, the Yidaki.

This week World of Music welcomes local didgeridoo expert Pitz Quattrone to the show, we’ll play a little – learn a little – and find out why Vermont is the epicenter for National Didgeridoo Day (coming up this Wednesday, the 25th).

poetry + jazz = PoJAZZ

The project is described as “an experiment in words and music”, and yet there’s very little left to chance in the new PoJAZZ collaboration. Over the last year, eight of the region’s top poets came together with more than a dozen of the area’s best jazz performers in various local venues for several evenings of artistic exchange.

One of those venues was The Black Door in Montpelier, and the new PoJAZZ recording Last Days – Live from the Black Door has just been released. It’s excellent.

We’ll give PoJAZZ a listen on this week’s World of Music along with other local sounds from the trio “Twist of the Wrist”; Burlington’s psychotropical band Guagua; and the new release from Adamant-based didgeridoo virtuoso Pitz Quattrone and his Earthman Band.

Discovering the world right here at home, along with the latest from Africa, Peru, Belize, Québec, and the usual international musical hot spots.
