Marta Gomez and World Music Latina

Marta Gomez and World Music Latina

She sings, yes, beautifully. She also plays guitar, and the band is great.

But Marta Gómez impressed me most of all last Friday night with her songwriting. From songs about her own family and the women who have influenced her to traditional Colombian melodies and rhythms and contemporary jams, Gómez and her band World Music Latina filled the UVM recital hall with a colorful serenade of stories for close to two hours.

Many of the songs came from the new release Musiquita, like the soulful Rio and Manos de Mujeres, and the upbeat Carnavaliando. Other songs went back further, a warm breeze blowing in from Gómez’s combined past of schooling at Berklee and younger life in Bogotá.

Really nice.
